The Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) and the Council of Deans in Information Technology Education (CoDITE) Region 2 convened today for a Consultative Meeting and Roadmap Planning with top industry experts.

The focus of the meeting was to develop a strategic roadmap aimed at enhancing the BS Information Technology curriculum, by incorporating specialized fields like Networking, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Digital Forensic and Incident Reporting to address industry demands and equip educators with advanced, industry-relevant skills.

Dr. Betchie Aguinaldo, PSITE CV Vice President โ€“ External, opened the session, welcoming attendees and introducing the programโ€™s objectives. While Dr. Bernandino Malang, PSITE VP for Luzon inspires the attendees to embrace the opportunity with industry experts to raise the bar of faculty competence to produce a future-ready and competent workforce of IT graduates that will create an impactful education.

Mr. Andrei Manuel, Manager of Huawei Talent Ecosystem, followed and discussed Huaweiโ€™s extensive support for IT education through Certification Courses and Training Programs for faculty and students. Attendees then participated in breakout sessions, each led by experts in key areas of IT.

Dr. Joseph A. Esquivel, CISCO Administrator and Digital Forensic & Incident Reporting specialist, discussed tailored training plans and emphasized the value of certification for faculty development. AWS expert Dr. Jonilo Mababa outlined the onboarding process for faculty interested in cloud certification, while Orica cybersecurity specialist Mr. Jonathan Roco Apostol offered his support for upcoming cybersecurity workshops, sharing targeted training goals to enhance faculty competencies in the field.

Engr. Roy Pamintalan, a trainer in Mikrotik networking, highlighted that Networking requires only basic foundational skills and provided details on Mikrotikโ€™s free certification offeringsโ€”covering Network Associate, User Management Engineer, and Routing Engineer certifications, each with a three-year validity and a one-day refresher course. Additionally, participating member schools received free networking devices as part of Mikrotikโ€™s commitment to educational support.

PSITE CV Vice President Internal Dr. Arvin Alonzo concluded the meeting by summarizing key takeaways and outlining next steps, followed by closing remarks from PSITE CV President, Dr. Ramoncito Adducul, who expressed gratitude to the faculty attendees for their commitment to advancing IT education.

The consultative meeting between PSITE, CoDITE Region II, and industry experts represents a step toward evolving IT education in the region. By integrating in-demand specializations into the Information Technology curriculum and with support from industry giants like Huawei, AWS, CISCO, and Mikrotik, Region II sets the position of IT education with industry-aligned curriculum that prepares faculty and students with the competencies required to excel in the digital landscape
